HC 503 Legal Aspects of Health Systems Management
The course will address the major areas of law which influence the management of health care organizations. Health care managers will be provided with a general knowledge of legal issues and problems in terms of their profession, institution, medical and allied health staff, and in day-to-day operation of health care facilities.
The course examines a range of medical-legal issues such as the role and obligations of administration, the governing board, and medical and nursing staff. It also addresses the following specific topics: liability issues, antitrust and taxation laws, legal issues in mergers and consolidations, patient rights, confidentiality, labor law, and the general principles of risk management.
