Deborah Booros, dean of lifelong learning at DeSales University, has been named to the list of “Women of Influence” in the Lehigh Valley. Booros, who was the winner in the education category, joins a group of five other distinguished women from the community.
In addition to Booros, the other honorees include: Gloria Domina, founder of Women in Art in Pa., winner in the non-profit organization category; Sally Gammon, president and CEO, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, in health care; Andrea Hemphill, independent sales director, winner in business; the Honorable F.P. Kimberly McFadden, president judge, Court of Common Pleas of Northampton County, winner for government; and Tracey Saab, founder, Community Warriors, winner for community service.
“Women of Influence,” a new initiative launched at the Power of Women fall networking event in October, 2009, is a way to highlight the many women in the community who make a difference every day. According to Pamela Varkony, of Allentown, Pa., founder of the Power of Women, the response was very positive with hundreds of votes cast for the winners.
In the list of Women of Influence winners, the section on each individual honoree notes why she was chosen. Booros, who joined the DeSales staff in 1990, and was named associate dean in 1999 and dean in 2001, is cited for being “innovative, accomplished and committed.”
The list of Women of Influence winners is in the current issue of Lehigh Valley Magazine and also can be viewed online.
“Power of Women,” a networking and mentoring initiative by and for women, was introduced in 1999 by Pamela Varkony, along with a group of dedicated friends, to provide women with the opportunities to reach their goals and potential through networking, mentoring and education. Among its regular activities is an annual fall luncheon event and spring seminar. Other features include an internet radio show, internet facebook page, and partnership opportunities.
Varkony, a recognized speaker, writer and commentator on women’s leadership development, also is a freelance columnist and magazine feature writer known for her insights on politics and current affairs.
