The Third Annual Bernie McGovern Scholarship Day will be held Saturday, January 23, when the DeSales University men’s and women’s basketball teams host King’s College in a Freedom Conference doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. (women’s) and 4:00 p.m. (men’s) in Billera Hall. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, $2 for students. DeSales students with proper IDs will be admitted free.
The games will be dedicated to the memory of Bernie McGovern and all proceeds generated by ticket sales and donations will go to the Bernie McGovern Scholarship Fund.
McGovern was a long-time employee of DeSales University who passed away in July 2007. He worked as the facilities supervisor for the Center Valley Campus for 17 years and was an integral part of the University community, widely respected by students, faculty, staff and parents. McGovern was the loving father of five DeSales University alumni.
A donation to the McGovern Scholarship Fund can be made during halftime of both of the contests. Representatives of the Athletic Department will be present by the stairways exiting the gym.
