Macintoshes—iMac 2.4 GHz or MacBook 2.1Ghz or better; 1GB RAM

Both PC and Macintosh systems should have an Ethernet adapter [100TX/1000TX] pre-installed if possible.

Supported Operating Systems

The recommended operating systems supported by the RESNET network are: Windows XP/Vista/7 Workstation for PCs and Mac OS X or higher for Macintoshes.

Our Network Support staff will not configure computers running Windows 3.x, NT, or Windows 95/98/ME for use on the RESNET network.

Wireless Information

If you want to take advantage of the wireless networks in the academic buildings on campus you will need a laptop with a wireless Ethernet adapter. These laptops come in two configurations. The first is a laptop with a built in wireless Ethernet adapter in addition to the wired Ethernet adapter. The second configuration is to purchase a separate wireless Ethernet adapter card and install it into the laptop. Either option will work equally well. If you plan to purchase a separate wireless card please make sure that it meets the 802.11b/g standard.  Most wireless adapters should work well in our wireless areas; however only Linksys, Intel, Cisco, and Dell wireless adapters have been verified by the IT staff. NOTE: The use of wireless routers/access points in DeSales dorms is strictly prohibited.
