DeSales Lunch Program to Feature Chemistry Demonstrations, Thurs., May 6

Center Valley, Pa. (Tuesday May 4, 2004) - A series of fast and fun chemistry demonstrations will be the focus of the next Brown Bag Lunch Program at DeSales University from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, May 6, in the Hurd Science Center Auditorium. The event is open to the public free of charge.

DeSales faculty in chemistry and natural science, along with their students, will present a range of experiments from "Cold and Wet" (polymers, cross-linking and osmosis) to "Gel Canned Heat" (colloids, emissions by metal salts, and thermochemistry) and "Café Chemie" (combustion and oxidation-reduction reactions).

The workshop has been presented at high schools in the Lehigh Valley in the past and has been very well received. The group will be presenting the same workshop at DeSales. Faculty members participating include Dr. Rodger Berg, associate professor of chemistry; Dr. Edward Fleming, assistant professor of natural science; Dr. David Gelermo, lecturer in natural science; and Dr. Francis Mayville, assistant professor of chemistry.

The program is part of the Brown Bag Lunch Series, which Trexler has been providing every semester since September 1999.  The purpose of the series is to provide faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to share their research projects, personal interests, and hobbies with the whole DeSales University community.

For more information, please contact Debbie Malone, library director, at 610-282-1100, ext. 1253 or Debbie.malone@desales.edu.
