Marnie Schulenburg ’06 nominated for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Daytime Drama
DeSales University graduate Marnie Schulenburg graced the red carpet on June 28 for the 2010 Daytime Emmy Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada. Schulenburg was nominated for her role as Alison Stewart on the daytime drama, As the World Turns.
A native of Hyannis, Massachusetts, Schulenburg attended Barnstable High School then attended DeSales University, graduating in 2006 with a degree in acting and directing. During her tenure at DeSales, she played a variety of roles for both Act 1 and The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. Shortly after graduation, Schulenburg moved to New York City and moved in with her older brother Gus, a playwright and 1999 DeSales alumnus.
She was not looking for a soap job when she arrived in New York. “My main love is musical theater,” says Schulenburg. She started going on auditions for theater, TV, and film roles. Then her manager, Kyle Luker ’99 arranged a meeting with the casting director for As the World Turns. She made her debut as Alison Stewart on The Young and the Restless then moved to As the World Turns. Her appearances began a crossover between the two daytime dramas that grew into the online-only series L.A. Diaries.
Schulenburg recently appeared on episodes of Fringe and Army Wives, and will appear on the July 2, 2010 episode of the USA drama, Royal Pains. When not playing Alison Stewart, she devotes her spare time to pursuing acting jobs in theater.
