Dr. Carol G. Mest is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Graduate Nursing Programs. She has been board certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner for 25 years and has served in a wide variety of primary care roles. She has provided primary care services in adult health/internal medicine, occupational health, migrant health, student health, and public health in Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley.
Her teaching responsibilities include Advanced Health and Physical Assessment, Family Dynamics in Diverse Populations, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Nursing Research, Nursing Theories, and the Family Nurse Practitioner specialty courses. In addition, she teaches Community Assessment and Health Planning for the MBA Program.
Dr. Mest has redesigned or developed all of the MSN Program offerings over her 15 years at DeSales University. She has secured more than $1.5 million in grants to support student tuition, to hire and retain faculty, and to purchase three human patient simulators for the Department of Nursing. She serves as the Faculty Counselor for Mu Omicron, DeSales University's chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the American College of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Mest is active in many community and service organizations. She is a Trustee of the Catholic Charities, Diocese of Allentown. She is a member of the Medical Reserve Corps/ServPA for the cities of Allentown and Bethlehem. She serves as the Education Liaison for the Lehigh Valley Nurse Practitioner Association, managing both the listserve and the continuing education of the membership. She volunteers for the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts in the Theatre Department and on the Gala Committee. Dr. Mest maintains an active clinical practice with the Free Clinic of Allentown at New Bethany.
Dr. Mest received her BSN from West Chester University and her MSN/ANP from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her Ph.D. at Temple University with a concentration in Health Program Planning.
