DeSales University and Indian Institute Sign Partnership Agreement
DeSales University and the Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM) entered into a partnership agreement on April 1, to pursue faculty exchange programs and initiatives in business management on the graduate level. The formal agreement was signed by Father Bernard O'Connor, OSFS, president of DeSales, and Prof. Ashoke K. Dutta, director and chief academic Officer of IISWBM, during a brief ceremony in the President's Conference Room in Chappuis Hall.
"DeSales has made a serious commitment to preparing globally ready students," said Dr. Mohamed Latib, vice president for program and strategic development at DeSales. "An agreement, such as the one between DeSales and the Indian Institute, allows educational institutions to gain access to the global arena and helps to facilitate bringing together different cultures for greater understanding."
The Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, located in Calcutta, was established in 1953, and is the oldest graduate institution in India. As the first Management Institute in India, it formed an integral part of that government's efforts to promote professional management in Indian industry. Ashoke K. Dutta serves as director and chief academic officer of the IISWBM.
Dutta has more than 30 years of experience in multinational corporations, Indian business houses and public sector enterprises. He serves on numerous boards, including the Board of Computech International, Millenium Information Systems, All India Organization of Employers, State Labour Institute, Calcutta Management Association and the Bengal Productivity Council. He is chairman of Centre for Research in Materials Management. He attended St. Xavier's College and the Indian Institute of Management, and in the Ph.D. program in management at Case Western Reserve University.
