DeSales University alumni, Andrew Marshall, ’09 and Stephen Thompson, ’09 have been named to Bloomberg Businessweek’s list of “America’s Best Young Entrepreneurs 2010.” Readers voted them number two out of the 25 entrepreneurs on the list, which is comprised only of entrepreneurs under the age of 25. Marshall and Thompson are founders and owners of the clothing company, Pyknic.

Marshall and Thompson, who met when they were teammates on the DeSales University men’s soccer team, founded Pyknic in 2006 when they were students at DeSales University. Their designs were first sold to members of the DeSales community. Since then, the line has expanded and grown. Products are now sold online; in boutique stores across the United States and Puerto Rico; in chain stores such as Pacific Sunwear and Hot Topic; and in Milan, Tokyo, London, and Paris.

Pyknic is comprised of clothing products such as denim jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts and shorts. The company also produces hats, wristbands and collectible vinyl toys. The products are characterized by colorful artwork that is inspired by food concepts. The lifestyle brand serves as an outlet for Marshall and Thompson’s culture of food, sport, friends, and music.

“We focus on personal relationships with our customers and the quality of our product. It is important to us that our clothing is good enough to eat,” said Thompson.

Marshall and Thompson are involved in all aspects of their business, including product design, accounting and marketing. They recently purchased a warehouse in New Jersey, and are expected to earn $500,000 in revenue for 2010. Marshall and Thompson also hope to open a Pyknic store within the next five years.
