Dr. Amlong holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of South Carolina (2006), an M.A. from the University of Alabama, Birmingham and a B.A. from the University of Alabama. She specializes in Nineteenth-Century American literature; Women's Studies; American Renaissance; and Southern literature and culture.
She teaches a variety of courses including: Communication and Thought, Introduction to Fiction, American Romantics, Progressive Era, Literary Modernism, Women Writers, African-American literature, and Southern literature. Dr. Amlong serves as the coordinator for freshman writing at DeSales. She also advises English majors in the legal studies track, as well as secondary education track. In addition, she serves as a liaison to the LVAIC Women's Studies Coalition.
Her scholarly interests focus on women writers in the nineteenth century, as well as the American Renaissance. Her current research agenda includes articles on women editors of reform periodicals in the nineteenth century, as well as a book project on reform movements in the nineteenth century.
