Gina Lucrezi '05 Becomes DeSales' First National Champion
DeSales University junior Gina Lucrezi became the school's first-ever national champion in an individual or team sport, as she won the 1,500-meter race at the 2004 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater.
Lucrezi qualified for the finals of the race on Friday with a time of 4:44.27 and recorded a Kachel Fieldhouse record time of 4:39.78 to become the NCAA Division III 1,500-meter National Champion. She earned 10 team points for DeSales, which placed the school in a tie for 17th at the championship meet.
She earned All-American honors for the fourth time in her cross-country and track & field career at DeSales. She has earned the honor twice in cross-country and also twice in track and field as she finished fifth in the 1,500-meter race in indoor track at the National Championships in 2002.
Lucrezi, who majors in TV and film, is from Pen Argyl, Pa., and graduated from Bangor High School
