Every year, the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) recognizes an outstanding student in the health care systems management concentration of the DeSales University MBA program by awarding the EPAHEN-Hal Dolenga Emerging Leader Award. This year’s recipient is Ashli Rusmisel.

A leader in her field, Rusmisel works as a radiation therapist in the cancer center at St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network, where she provides cutting edge therapies to cancer patients. She has actively served on a variety of committees involving radiation technology and has volunteered with the American Cancer Society to raise money for cancer awareness and research.

“Rusmisel is an exceptional communicator and talented radiation therapist,” said James Goetz, director of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Henry Cancer Center. “She can motivate her team, gain consensus when needed, and has the ability to make complex subjects understandable.”

Rusmisel has also distinguished herself among her classmates and instructors by bringing a fresh perspective to classroom discussions. “Always a delight in the classroom, Rusmisel often stands head and shoulders above the pack in many areas—she focuses like a laser beam, has demonstrated solid analytical and critical thinking, and is quite skilled at presenting both oral and written arguments,” said Dr. Dave Gilfoil, director of the MBA program at DeSales.

The EPAHEN – Hal Dolenga Emerging Leader Award is presented each year to a current MBA student concentrating in healthcare at DeSales University. It is named in honor of Dr. Hal Dolenga, who helped establish the MBA program in 1990, and was the first director of the MBA program at DeSales. The student must have completed at least half of the program, have demonstrated current or potential leadership success, and be a member of good standing in the community.
