DeSales University Act 3 Children’s Theatre Presents “Peter Pan”
This spring, the Act 3 Children’s Theatre Company of DeSales University will present “Peter Pan” by Douglas Irvine. This new version — a 50-minute adaptation by Douglas Irvine from J.M. Barrie’s original story — uses the magic of theatre and imagination to achieve the flight to Neverland. This enchanting play about Peter Pan and the Darling children’s struggle to overcome the villainous Captain Hook is suitable for families and audiences of all ages.
The production runs March 22 through May 7 in the Schubert Theatre of the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts on the DeSales University campus in Center Valley, PA.
Performances are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with performances every day at 10 a.m. and additional 12:30 p.m. performances on certain dates. All tickets are $8.00 and group discounts are available.

Act 3 has delighted children across the Lehigh Valley for more than 30 years. Last year more than 6,000 patrons were entertained. Teachers can share this delight with their classes, and parents find a fun alternative to Saturday morning television.
“Peter Pan” is the final project of the 2011 senior theatre class of DeSales University. The students of the class take on the artistic and administrative roles of a professional theatre company. Besides performing all of the wonderful characters in the play, the students handle company management, box office, marketing and publicity, directing, designing, and construction of sets, props, and costumes.
“My hope for this production is to bring a timeless tale to children of all ages while exposing them to the beauty of live theatre and the magic of a boy who refuses to grow up,” says Anthony Connell, the production’s director.
Anthony Azzolina plays the popular title role. “It is so exhilarating to portray a role that everyone knows so well and to try and fit the picture that everybody has in mind when they think about this immortal character,” says Azzolina. “I cannot wait to see how the children of the Lehigh Valley respond to our interpretation—I think they are going to have a blast.”
Dennis Razze, chair of the DeSales theatre department, is once again advising the senior students on this project. “The director and designers of Act 3’s “Peter Pan” have chosen a challenging play to produce and they are doing a wonderful job using their imaginations to create all of the magic and fantasy of this terrific story,” says Razze.
Mary Paschke serves as the company manager. Jenna Snyder designed and painted the scenery for the numerous locales. Amy Hilmer designed the colorful and detailed costumes. The lighting and magical effects were created by Sydney Justice, and the sound design is by Sarah Martins. Julie Lynn Coulton is the stage manager.
Act 3 will provide free tickets to almost 300 children from a diverse group of schools and organizations serving children with financial need. Also, an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreted performance will be held Thursday April 7 at 12:30 PM DeSales University and community donations provided the financial support for these special performances. The Act 3 Company is also proud to be holding book readings to bring the magic of live theatre right into the classrooms throughout the Lehigh Valley.
The Labuda Center is fully accessible and equipped with a listening enhancement system sponsored by The Dexter F. and Dorothy H. Baker Foundation and Schubert Communications, Inc.
