Under the direction of J. Bennett Durham, DeSales University offers students three unique opportunities to be involved in choral ensembles: University Chorale, Schola Cantorum, and Liturgical Choir.
University Chorale, a 60-voice mixed ensemble, is open to all DeSales students (except theatre majors). Students in Chorale develop musical and vocal skills through the performance of engaging repertoire from a variety of styles and time periods, frequently accompanied by a chamber orchestra. The University Chorale performs in two major events each year: Gaudeamus in December, and the annual Spring Concert in April.
Rehearsals: Tuesday & Thursday from 6:00-6:55 pm in Connelly Chapel
Schola Cantorum, an advanced chamber choir of 25 voices, is selected by audition each year from the membership of the University Chorale. Students in Schola perform a diverse selection of advanced repertoire, with a particular emphasis on acapella choral music ranging from the Renaissance through the 21st century. In addition to Gaudeamus and the annual Spring Concert, Schola performs for many important campus events. Through the Choral Scholarship Program, all eligible members of Schola Cantorum receive scholarship money for their participation.
Rehearsals: Tuesday & Thursday from 5:00-5:55 pm in Connelly Chapel
Liturgical Choir, a 25-voice mixed ensemble, provides an essential ministry to the campus community with its musical leadership of campus Masses. In addition to service music, the Liturgical Choir performs anthems from a variety of genres, styles, and time periods. Liturgical Choir is open to all students, including theatre majors, by audition. Through the Choral Scholarship Program, all eligible members of Liturgical Choir receive scholarship money for their participation.
Rehearsals: Sunday from 6:30-7:45 pm in Connelly Chapel
Masses: Sunday at 8:00 pm in Connelly Chapel
