National Intelligence Expert Dr. William Nolte to Speak at DeSales

Dr. William Nolte will speak at DeSales University on the topic of “The Prospects for the Intelligence Community in the Face of Reduced Budgets.”

On Wednesday, October 26, at 3:00 p.m., Dr. William Nolte will speak at DeSales University on the topic of “The Prospects for the Intelligence Community in the Face of Reduced Budgets.” The lecture will be in the Commonwealth Room of the DeSales University Center and is free and open to the public.

Nolte, who has had a 30-year career in the intelligence community, is currently a research professor and director, programs for intelligence research and education, at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland.

“We invite national figures to come and talk to students about the opportunities that are in the intelligence field,” said Dr. Andrew Essig, associate professor of political science and advisor to the national security track. “Having Dr. Nolte speak is a way of helping the students in the national security track develop critical thinking skills and give them further insight into careers in the intelligence community.”

During his career Dr. Nolte served as director of education and training in the office of the director of national intelligence and chancellor of the National Intelligence University.

He was also deputy assistant director of central intelligence (DCI) for analysis and production, with duties such as chairing the DCI’s Foreign Language Executive Committee, and as a member of the Intelligence Science Board. While at the National Security Agency, Nolte was director of training, chief of legislative affairs, and senior intelligence advisor to the director of signals intelligence.

Nolte holds a bachelor of arts from LaSalle University and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Maryland.

The national security track of the political science major at DeSales began four years ago. Students who are interested in careers in both the public and private sectors dealing with national security issues take courses in national security, terrorism, and intelligence. DeSales University is one of the few schools that offers national security program on the undergraduate level. In addition to the track, there is a National Security Club that is open to all majors on campus.

For more information, contact Dr. Andrew Essig, associate professor of political science, at 610.282.1100, ext. 1632.
