DeSales Physician Assistants Best in the East

Students in the DeSales Physician Assistant Program had a very successful showing in the Thirteenth Annual Student National Medical Challenge Bowl in New Orleans on Friday, May 23. DeSales finished third from among 49 programs that qualified for the competition. It was the only Pennsylvania school to win in the tournament and was the lone East Coast school to make it to the final four. The event was sponsored by the Student Academy of Physician Assistants.

In the final four, Midwestern University (Illinois) won the national competition with Marquette University (Wisconsin) finishing second, DeSales third, and Baylor College of Medicine (Texas) finishing fourth.

DeSales automatically advanced to the second round in the national competition, as a result of winning the Northeastern Regional Medical Challenge Bowl in March. It made it to the final four after defeating Lemoyne University (New York), Interservice Physician Assistant Program (Texas), and Barry University (Florida). DeSales won the Northeastern Regional Medical Challenge Bowl in March.

Among the well-known and established programs competing in this year's event were Duke, Emory, Wake Forest, Quinnipiac, Eastern Virginia Medical School, George Washington University, Nova Southeastern University, Medical University of South Carolina, University of Nebraska, Pace University (New York), Arizona School of Health Sciences, University of California-Davis, University of Oklahoma, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia University, Arcadia, Drexel University, and Duquesne in Pittsburgh.

DeSales won the 2002 National Challenge Bowl held last year in Boston and was the only program to appear among the final four teams for two consecutive years. DeSales won last year's competition, which also included 49 teams, with direct victories over Arcadia (Pennsylvania), Emory (Georgia), State University of New York, Quinnipiac (Connecticut), New York Institute (New York), and University of New Mexico (New Mexico).
