DeSales Students to Provide Free Tax Preparation Assistance to Senior Citizens
DeSales University students will offer free tax preparation to senior citizens in the local area from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 23, in the All Purpose Room of the Bethlehem area YMCA, 430 East Broad Street, Bethlehem. Although the program is open to the public, student help is limited to 40 individuals, and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The students, junior and senior accounting majors at DeSales, are taking part in the program, as part of a class assignment and as a project for the Accounting Club. The group is under the supervision of Christopher Cocozza, assistant professor of business at DeSales and faculty adviser.
Anyone over the age of 55 who is interested in getting assistance with their taxes on Wed., Feb. 23, can call Karen Sweeny, adult physical director of the Bethlehem YMCA, at 610-867-7588.
In addition to the YMCA program, DeSales students also are providing free tax preparation assistance to senior citizens and those with lower incomes, as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program of the United States Internal Revenue Service, until Friday, April 1.
