Troy Hein of WFMZ-TV to Speak on 'Sports and the Media' at Brown Bag Lunch, Wed., March 16, at DeSales

Troy Hein, sports reporter with WFMZ-TV Channel 69, will discuss "Sports and the Media" at noon on Wednesday, March 16, in Trexler Library at DeSales University. In his talk, Hein will share personal experiences from his career in sports media. The program will include a question-and-answer period. The presentation is part of the Brown Bag Lunch Series and is open to the public free of charge.

As sports director at WFMZ Channel 69 for 5 years, Hein has had a variety of experiences, from riding four laps in a two-seater Indy Car with racing legend Michael Andretti and trying out for a minor league baseball team, to following the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida this year

Hein's broadcasting career started while he was in college, as the play-by-play announcer for local high school basketball games. He also served as the station manager of his college radio station and sports director for the college television station. After graduating from college, Hein worked as a news and sports director in radio for a year and a half, and handled the play-by-play duties for more than 50 games. The following year, Hein started his television career.

A native of Portola, Cal., Hein graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1996. He is a volunteer with the American Heart Association and also participates in the annual charity basketball game WFMZ holds against the team from The King's Academy, to help raise money for the private school.

Trexler Library established the Brown Bag Lunch Series in September 1999. The purpose of the series is to provide faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to share their research projects, personal interests, and hobbies with the whole DeSales University community.

For more information on the program or the Brown Bag Lunch Series, please contact Loretta Ulincy, public services librarian at Trexler Library at DeSales University, at (610) 282-1100, ext. 1346.
