In an article by Dan Hartzell on the Lincoln Day Breakfast meeting, an annual Republican event, he stated that Andy Roman, Lehigh County Commissioner and director of the Center for Professional Development at DeSales, announced he would not run against County Executive Jane Ervin in the Republican primary. He cited family considerations, as the main reason. According to Hartzell, Roman considered running because he feels Ervin's tenure as executive has featured too much spending and insufficient cost control. Ervin, who has defended her budget decisions over the years, stated she was happy to avoid a primary fight against a sitting commissioner.
