Story by Nick Falsone on recent debate between State Rep. Pat Browne, R-Lehigh, and Rep. Jennifer Mann, D-Lehigh, who are candidates in the April 5 special election to fill the seat in the 16th District vacated by U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Lehigh Valley. The event, hosted by the Allentown Rotary Club, was moderated by Rev. Daniel Gambet of DeSales. About 100 people attended the one-hour debate. Issues being discussed included slot machines and economic development. Browne voted against the bill legalizing slots parlors, saying it is not the kind of industrial legacy he wishes to build. Mann, who supported the bill, sees it as an opportunity to create a new revenue stream. On economic development, both candidates agreed that the state needs to create a climate in which the private sector can flourish. The debate is one of several in which Browne and Mann will participate.
