DeSales Bulldogs Receive #2 Seed, Play Messiah in NCAA Regional Opener

The NCAA announced early on Monday morning (May 16, 2005) that the DeSales University baseball team will be the #2 seed in this week's NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Baseball Tournament hosted by the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, PA.

The Bulldogs (31-8) will face Messiah College (27-12-1), the automatic qualifier from the Commonwealth Conference, in the second game on Thursday, May 19, beginning at 3:00 pm. DSU is 6-3 all-time vs. the Falcons and have won four of the last five meetings. The two teams have not met however since the 2001 season which DeSales won, 6-1.

DeSales will be led by the 2005 Freedom Conference Player of the Year senior Ian Hauze (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) and the 2005 Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Year junior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff).

Hauze leads the team in hitting at .450 with team-highs in hits (67), runs scored (50), doubles (19) and stolen bases (11). He also has four home runs and has knocked in 41 runs. Reppert was named the Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. He is 7-2 with a team-low 1.34 ERA in nine starts and 67 innings. Reppert has fanned 57 batters, owns five complete-games, one shutout and opponents are hitting just .244 off him. As a team, DeSales is hitting .358 and has a 2.95 ERA.

The #1 seed in the tournament will be Rowan University (37-7), one of three teams across the country to earn an at-large bid.
