Story by Mandy Housenick on students in a DeSales sports administration class taught by Dr. Steven Carney, assistant professor of sports management, who handled the public relations aspects of a baseball game they organized, as a class project. The game featured DeSales against Moravian at Limeport Stadium. The students got sponsors, collected giveaways, organized contests, had tickets printed and wrote press releases. Housenick quotes Dedan Brozino, a junior majoring in sports management, who said, "I love the pressure. I love the stress. Bar none, I would choose this as my career anything else." Kim Werner, also a junior, was part of the sponsors / promotions group for the project and was responsible for finding someone to sing the national anthem and getting businesses to donate money and prizes. According to B.J. Spigelmyer, sports information director at DeSales, everything ran smoothly and the group did a great job. "This is a great experience for them," said Carney. "You can talk to them about solving problems in class, but unless you experience it yourself and are under that pressure, it's just not the same. Sometimes you learn more by making a mistake yourself."
