DeSales University Celebrates National Library Week
Center Valley, Pa., -- (April 1, 2003) -- DeSales University will celebrate National Library Week on Monday, April 7, through Wednesday, April 9. All events during the celebration will take place in the lobby of the Trexler Library on DeSales University's Center Valley campus.
The festivities will begin on Monday, April 7 at 3 p.m., with a presentation by Dr. Katherine Ramsland and Dr. Richard Noll, assistant professors in the social sciences at DeSales University. The title of the presentation is "How to Succeed in Publishing (or Maybe Not...)." Both Ramsland and Noll have published work to their credit, and will discuss the trials, tribulations, and joys of their successes and failures in the art of writing and publishing.
Al Sproule, assistant professor of criminal justice at DeSales University, will speak at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 about terrorism. In his talk titled, "Terrorism: What Do We Do Know," Sproule will discuss the history of terrorism and provide an overview of the impact terrorism is having on the Lehigh Valley.
On Wednesday, April 9 at noon, Juilene Osborne-McKnight, a lecturer in humanities at DeSales, will present, "The Power and Importance of Stories." Juilene is the author of Daughter of Ireland and I Am of Irelaunde. She will discuss the importance of narrative in both cultural and literary traditions. As an accomplished storyteller, Juilene will demonstrate her ability by reciting some of her Irish stories.
This year, the Trexler Library joins the American Library Association and 10,000 libraries across the country in encouraging users to learn more about the exciting range of new and traditional resources available. National Library Week 2003 marks the third year of The Campaign for America's Libraries, a multi-year public education campaign sponsored by the ALA and libraries across the country to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century.
