DeSales University Dedicates Education Center and Nursing Wing

Center Valley, Pa., - (October 3, 2002) - Representatives of DeSales University, members of the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and students honored several long-time supporters of the University during the naming and dedication of a new nursing wing and education center in Dooling Hall on the University's Center Valley campus.

The new facilities are part of a major renovation to Dooling Hall, one of the first campus buildings built more than 30 years ago. A new nursing wing complete with faculty offices, a conference room and a large laboratory and a new education center including faculty offices and an instructional media center were part of the renovations. A complete redesign of the DeSales University Admissions Office was also part of the renovations.

DeSales University President, Father Bernard O'Connor, OSFS, led the dedication and tour of the facilities. The newly named areas include: The Edward J. and Inez C. Donley Education Center and The First Union Instructional Media Center in the new education wing of Dooling Hall and The Russell R. and Ulrike Young Nursing Wing featuring the Dr. Earl Sipes and Helen Sipes, R.N., C.R.N.A., B.S., Laboratory and the Caroline Hollshwandner Conference Room.

All were honored in recognition of their long-term support of DeSales University. The Donleys are area philanthropists with a commitment to education; Russell Young is a distinguished business leader, and Catholic layman, whose dedication to nursing at DeSales began when his deceased wife, Naomi, was treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital by nurses trained at DeSales; the late Dr. Earl Sipes, served as the chief of surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital and Mrs. Sipes has been on the DeSales Board of Trustees for more than 10 years; Caroline Hollshwandner, professor emeritus and now retired from the nursing faculty, started the DeSales University nursing program in the mid-1970's.
