DeSales University to Hold September 11 Commemoration Peace Vigil
Center Valley, Pa. (August 29, 2002) DeSales University will host a peace vigil at 7:30 p.m.,Wednesday, September 11, 2002 in the Connelly Chapel on the Center Valley Campus.
The event is sponsored by DeSales University and the Southern Lehigh Peace Fellowship. The keynote speaker is Phyllis Alexander Francis, director of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Coalition Building Institute and former director of human relations and equal opportunity for the City of Allentown.
The vigil will consist of song, prayer and remembrance of all those who have suffered due to violence and hate, especially those who were victims of September 11. The service is ecumenical and open to the public. Donations to the Red Cross Relief Fund are welcome.
As a diversity management consultant, Phyllis Alexander's primary affiliation is with the National Coalition Building Institute, a non-profit leadership training organization based in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1984, NCBI has been working for more than 17 years to eliminate prejudice and intergroup conflict in communities throughout the world. Alexander is a senior trainer and chapter director for the Lehigh Valley Chapter of NCBI, regional director for the Mid Atlantic Region, and NCBI international board member.
Alexander is a consultant for the Allentown School District and conducts institutional structures and human values workshops for Eikon, Inc. Formerly, she had been a civil rights specialist for the City of Iowa City, Iowa, and held various civil rights positions with Moore Business Forms, Inc., Glenview, Ill. She earned her bachelor's degree in economics from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
