Story by Christian Berg (with photos) profiles Van Blargan, captain of the Pennsylvania women's trap team. Blargan graduated from Northampton Area High School, where she was a star softball player, and earned a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and a master's from DeSales. Blargan won her first registered match, the Southern Grand American, in March 1997 in Tampa, Fla. The next year, she won the Lady of America trophy in Maryland. In 2000, she was the top overall female shooter at the state championship shoot in Elysburg. She suffered a slump, after developing a shooter's flinch. With the help of her husband, who also is her coach, she overcame the problem with the installation of a release trigger in her gun. She is now shooting better than ever and competes in five major events each year.
