Award-Winnning Filmmaker to Conduct a Community Workshop, Tues., Oct. 18, at DeSales University
Enid Zentelis, award-winning film maker, will conduct a community workshop from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, October 18, in Dooling Hall Auditorium at DeSales University. Zentelis will screen and discuss various scenes from her feature film, "Evergreen," which was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004, and also talk about turning a screenplay into a film. The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The program, which is open to the public free of charge, is part of the Visiting Artist Film Series at DeSales.
The Visiting Artist Film Series (VAFS) at DeSales, established in the fall of 2005, is designed to benefit DeSales students, as well as the Lehigh Valley performing arts community. Funded by a grant from the Dexter F. and Dorothy H. Baker Foundation, the series of master classes and public presentations will be a celebration of creative, intellectual, and cultural diversity. This is the second program in the series.
In the fall 2004, Zentelis' feature film "Evergreen," which she wrote and directed, was released in 115 theaters nationwide. In addition to film being nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004, Zentelis won the Best First-Time Director at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival. She also has directed music videos for 3 Doors Down, "Away From the Sun," and Eric Clapton, "Reptile," both of which aired on VH1.
Earlier in the day, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 18, in the Air Products Room of Trexler Library at DeSales, Zentelis will conduct a workshop for students on character development in scriptwriting. This is the second of four student workshops that Zentelis will hold throughout the fall 2005 semester. Other themes she will address during the semester include constructing an outline for a screenplay and writing methods on November 15, and the job of a professional screenwriter and pitching projects on December 1.
Zentelis graduated from Hampshire College in 1993, with a degree in film and comparative literature. As a student, she also studied abroad at the University of Aix-en-Provence in France. She won the prestigious Willard T.C. Johnson Full Tuition Scholarship to NYU Tisch Film Program, and received her masters in fine arts in 1999.
