DeSales Junior Randy Sturm Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1st-Team
DeSales junior Randy Sturm, of North Cape May, N.J., continued to receive post-season honors on Thursday, November 3, as he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division First-Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).
The members of CoSIDA vote on the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Soccer Teams. Only Academic All-District First-Team members are forwarded to the national committee and considered for All-American status.
On November 3, Sturm was named to the All-Freedom Conference First-Team, as well as the Freedom Conference Player of the Year. Also, he is a three-time All-Freedom Conference member and twice has been named to the First-Team. He earns ESPN The MagazineAcademic All-District honors for the first time in his career.
He currently leads the 14-2-2 Bulldogs in scoring with 15 goals and four assists for 34 points. His 34 points rank him fifth all-time for points in a season and he is currently ranked seventh all-time with 30 goals and 15 assists for 75 points at DeSales. This season he has seven game winning goals and has won Freedom Conference Player of the Week honors four times.
Sturm, an elementary education major with a 3.57 cumulative GPA, has been named to the MASCAC Fall All-Academic team twice and is a four-time member of the Dean's list at DeSales.
DSU advanced to the Freedom Conference Championship game yesterday with a 2-0 win over Wilkes University. The #1 seeded Bulldogs will host Drew University in the title game beginning at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 5th. The winner receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament
