Thomas L. Campbell, Vice President of Development at DeSales University, Named Outstanding Fundraising Executive

Thomas L. Campbell, vice president of development at DeSales, has been named Outstanding Fundraising Executive by the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Campbell was honored at the National Philanthropy Day Awards breakfast on Tuesday, November 15, at the Holiday Inn, Fogelsville.

Campbell has raised $20 million for DeSales University. In 2004-05, he raised $12 million to fund the Priscilla Payne Hurd Science Center, admissions office renovations, a dining hall, and a residence hall, as part of the most successful capital campaign in DeSales history. In the past five years, he has raised over $5.3 million in endowments.

"Fundraising is a team effort," said Campbell. "This award gives DeSales recognition as coming of age and being on the same level as other colleges and universities in the Lehigh Valley and across the country."

In 1994, Campbell earned the status of Certified Fundraising Professional Executive. Recently, he was accepted to the Harvard Institute for Educational Management, a summer program for senior officials from colleges and universities across the country.

Campbell joined the staff of what was then Allentown College of Saint Francis de Sales in 1988, as coordinator of the annual fund. In 1992, he was named director of development and alumni relations. In 1999, he was promoted to vice president of development.

A resident of Macungie, Pa., Campbell earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Delaware and a master's in business administration from Wilkes University.
