In "Whelan on the Scene," by Frank Whelan, he mentions the upcoming Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival gala fund-raiser on Saturday, July 23. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Labuda Center for Performing Arts, where guests will enjoy champagne and light fare. This will be followed by the production of PSF's "The Merchant of Venice," directed by Robert Moss, artistic director of Syracuse Stage and founder of Playwrights Horizons in New York. Ken Jennings, Broadway and television actor, will play the lead role of Shylock. Following the play, guests will move to the DeSales University Center where they will enjoy hors d'ouevre, champagne and the jazz of the Dave Roth Trio. The major sponsor is Breslin Ridyard Fadero Architects. Lutron Electronics and Orlando Diefenderfer Electrical Contractors are co-sponsors. Philanthropist Marlene "Linny" Fowler will be presented with a special recognition award, during the evening.
