Strong to the Core

Story by Nancy Averett includes comments from Rev. Douglas Burns, OSFS, coordinator of sports & exercise science at DeSales, who quotes about the book, "Core Performance Essentials," by Mark Verstegen. Verstegen's book, which he co-wrote with Pete Williams, focuses on the core of your body, which is the "person's pillar of strength." The core is identified as the area from the shoulders to the hips. According to Father Burns, increasing pillar strength will improve your performance in sports such as golf, soccer and basketball.
