USMC Colonel to Share his Experiences "On the Ground in Iraq," Mon., March 20, at DeSales
Colonel Vincent Coglianese, United States Marine Corps, will share his experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan during the talk, "On the Ground in Iraq," at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 20, in the Air Products Room of Trexler Library at DeSales University. The program is sponsored by Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society and the political science program at DeSales University. The event is open to the public free of charge.
Coglianese was deployed to Afghanistan in November 2001, as the assistance operations officer for Task Force Bowie in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2003, he took command of MEU Service Support Group 24. In June 2004, he was deployed with the 24th MEU to Iraq's Northern Babil Province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Currently, Col. Coglianese serves as Senior Marine Corps' Logistics Fellow at the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University.
Among his numerous awards are the Bronze Star with gold star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star and Joint Commendation Medal.
Coglianese and his wife, Mary, have three sons, Vincent, who is a sophomore at DeSales, Fred and Anthony.
"I am very excited that my father can bring his experience to all of the students here at DeSales," said Vincent Coglianese, a political science major. "I hope students will learn something from the military perspective. It's not all about the fighting. It's about representing this country in a foreign land, caring for innocent people you have never met before, and making hard decisions when your life is on the line."
Coglianese was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, following graduation from Indiana University in 1983. In 1996, he graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, R. I., where he earned a master's of arts degree in national security and strategic studies. He also is a graduate of the Marine Corps Logistics Officers course, Amphibious Warfare School and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.
