DeSales University has named Dr. Rosalind Edman, who serves as director of the Academic Resource Center, and Linda Savitz, of accounts receivable in the treasurer's office, its Employees of the Year for 2006. Edman and Savitz were recognized for their years of service and contributions to the university's success, during the Service Excellence Dinner held on April 18 in McShea Commons at DeSales.
Edman received the 2006 Professional Staff Employee of the Year award. Savitz received the 2006 Support Staff Employee of the Year award. The awards are given to members of the university who have distinguished themselves through service to the school.
Both recipients agreed that the best part about working at DeSales is the great students and staff, and the friendly environment.
"I am so very thankful for my 16 years at DeSales, during which I have worked with many warm and kind people, and wonderful students. There is rarely an hour when the Academic Resource Center is not overflowing with students coming and going," said Edman. "I also love the emphasis on Salesian spirituality. My faith is very important to me and I love being surrounded by so many people for whom God is central."
Edman joined the DeSales faculty in 1990, as assistant professor of philosophy and theoloy. In 1995, she was named director of academic advising in the Learning Center, now the Academic Resource Center. She earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana; a master's degree in sacred theology from St. Mary's Graduate School of Theology, and a doctorate in religious studies from The Catholic University of America. Prior to DeSales, she served as director of the Religious Education Institute of the Diocese of Scranton. Currently, Edman resides in Lower Saucon with her husband, Norman. She enjoys the seashore and sailing.
Savitz, a graduate of Palisades High School, has worked in the treasurer's office since she joined the DeSales staff in July 1985. Prior to that, she worked at a local bank. Before that, she served as a teacher's aide in an elementary school. Currently, she resides in Quakertown with her husband. Bruce, of 22 years. Savitz enjoys traveling, dancing, browsing in flea markets, and collecting teddy bears.
"I feel very honored to receive this award," said Savitz. "The great students and staff are the best part of working at DeSales."
