Pope's first encyclical 'his way of saying love comes first'

Article by Tami A. Quigley (with photos) focuses on the presentation, "Why Begin with Love: On Benedict XVI's First Encyclical," by Dr. Rodney Howsare, associate professor of philosophy and theology at DeSales, at the Fellowship Dinner and Talk at the Newman Center at Lehigh University. According to Howsare, the abiding theme of the former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's philosophy since he was a young theologian has been "God is love." "He wants to emphasize that love comes first," said Howsare. Howsare also notes that in the end, the encyclical is about social justice and that we have to be involved in works of charity.
