Story by Kirk Beldon Jackson (with photos) on the grand opening of the disc golf course at DeSales featured comments by Father Bernard O'Connor, DeSales president, who said that DeSales students came up with the idea for the course. Last spring, four students drove to Florida and back, and played disc golf at courses along the way. When they returned, they asked if they could develop a course on the campus. Disc golf began in the late 1960s, as an informal game played with Frisbees. About 40 golfers marked the grand opening of the DeSales course, with a clinic, tournament, and driving and putting contests.
