Salesian Center for Faith and Culture at DeSales University to host online gambling discussion, Wed., Aug. 30
The Salesian Center for Faith and Culture at DeSales University will host a Center Valley Forum, at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 30, in the Hurd Science Center Auditorium on the Center Valley campus on "Online-Gambling: Financial Dream or Social Poison?"
The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a panel discussion looking at the current online gambling craze, particularly among young people, and its many ramifications.
Panelists include: the Honorable Charles Dent., a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and co-sponsor of the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act (H.R. 4411), a recently passed bill designed to protect children from the dangers of Internet gambling sites and cut down the spread of illegal off shore Internet gambling; the Reverend Greg Hogan Sr., Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Barberton, Ohio and father of the Lehigh University student who committed a bank robbery to pay his online gambling debt; and a DeSales professor from the Economics Department.
Panelists will each take several minutes to present their viewpoint on the topic followed by an audience question and answer period.
Center Valley Forum is a regularly scheduled series on a current topic of social controversy. The purpose of this series is to examine public issues and concerns of interest to the Lehigh Valley community, particularly as they impact our culture in law and society, science and healthcare, communications and media, commerce and finance, and religion and faith.
