A first-year student at DeSales University is at the start of an open road with many paths to explore. We understand that at times it can be difficult to know which path to take. Character U was developed as a resource for our first-year students to help make the transition from high school to college a little smoother, while also giving students character development opportunities through keynote speakers, diverse programs, campus events and meetings with their peer mentors.
All first-year students are assigned a peer mentor to help guide them though this very exciting journey. The mentor makes contact with the first-year students during the summer before they attend DeSales University. We encourage our first-year student to communicate with, ask questions of, and get to know their mentors throughout the summer.

Our upperclassmen are given numerous leadership development opportunities by acting as Character Captains and Mentors, who have the responsibility for their team of freshmen and their team of mentors. These student leaders are immersed in issues of motivation, conflict resolution, commitment, communication, focus, time management self-efficacy, respect, responsibility, team-building and more.
