Article by arts writer Myra Yellin Outwater (with photos) highlights banner summer season for area theatres, including the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, whose company of outstanding professional actors return regularly. Also, she acknowledges the talented professional freelance directors, scenic designers and New York costume designers with Broadway credits who are hired. The festival's 2006 season was its most successful, with 135 performances attended by 29,730 people, up almost 14 percent from 2005. According to Patrick Mulcahy, producing artistic director, it is the first time the festival has been in the black since 2000. Also, Dennis Razze, associate artistic director, said, "We're hearing more and more that we are a terrific alternative to going to New York or Philadelphia."
