Ronald W. Swinfard, M.D., Joins DeSales University's Board of Trustees
Ronald W. Swinfard, M.D., chief medical officer with the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network and associate professor of dermatology at Penn State College of Medicine, has joined DeSales University's Board of Trustees. His appointment, effective September 2006, was announced by Father Bernard O'Connor, OSFS, president of DeSales. Swinfard will serve until September 2009.
Swinfard joins three other new members of DeSales' Board of Trustees: Madelyn Azar, principal with the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies, Valley Forge, Pa.; Richard A. Spugnardi, president of Diversified Lighting Associates, Allentown, Pa.; and William J. Straccia, III, president of Electro-Space Fabricators, Inc., Topton, Pa. Azar, Spugnardi and Straccia, whose appointments were announced previously, will serve until May 2009.
Swinfard was named chief medical officer at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network in 2003. Prior to that, he served as chairman of the department of internal medicine at the University of Missouri - Columbia. Before medical school, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam, and taught high school chemistry for three years. He earned bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Missouri - Columbia. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Virginia and his residency in dermatology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was in private practice from 1983-1987, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Dermatology. Swinfard and his wife, Dr. Sara Viessman, currently reside in Allentown. He has three step-children, Peter, Beth and Hanna.
