Senator James J. Rhoades, Top-Ranking Official on Education in Pennsylvania Senate, to Speak at DeSales, Thurs., Nov. 9
Senator James J. Rhoades (R-29), chairman of the Pennsylvania Senate Education Committee, will visit the DeSales University campus and address the educational foundations class of Dr. Robert S. Legutko, assistant professor of education, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9. The program is open to the DeSales University community.
The talk by Senator Rhoades will focus on the impact of No Child Left Behind legislation, high-stakes testing and the Pennsylvania State System of Assessments (PSSA). He also will share his experiences as the top-ranking official on education in the senate. Students will have an opportunity to ask the Senator questions regarding education in the commonwealth and how it will impact them as future teachers.
A resident of Mahanoy City in Schuylkill County, Senator Rhoades was elected to the Senate of Pennsylvania in 1980 and is now serving his seventh consecutive term. The 29th senatorial district, which he represents, includes all of Schuylkill County, as well as parts of Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton Counties.
In addition to serving on the Senate Education Committee, Senator Rhodes also is a member of the Appropriations, Transportation, Law and Justice, and Environmental Resources and Energy Committees.
