The Performing and Fine Arts Department at DeSales University is recognized as one of the finest to be found on the Eastern Seaboard. From their first days on campus P&FA students participate in a rigorous routine of academic and practical studies. Between regularly scheduled student-produced TV shows, student-choreographed dance concerts, main stage theatrical productions, short films, one-act plays, tours, major dance concerts, and special events there are close to 100 different projects produced by the department each and every year! Students work as performers, producers, directors, choreographers, writers, cinematographers, designers, managers—literally every aspect of production is available to P&FA students during the course of their studies.
Students are encouraged to move freely between disciplines: film directors work with choreographers to break new ground in performance videography, actors appear regularly as star performers in student films, designers display their work across a variety of forms.
The department is grounded in the belief that a liberal arts education, combined with practical experience and rigorous studio and production work creates a well-rounded person and an insightful artist. DeSales P&FA graduates compete exceptionally well in the professional world as well as attend top graduate schools in their discipline. Opportunities with professional dance companies, film and television internships at the highest levels in New York and Los Angeles, and summer employment with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival just add to the extraordinary curricular and artistic experience of our students.
The facilities at the university are state-of-the-art and the faculty superior. For a challenging, thorough, and practical education in theatre, TV/Film, or dance, DeSales University provides all one can ask!
