A hands-on, professional approach to education

Students here learn how to use the equipment in their first year. That's right -- you'll be using the cameras and edit systems in your freshman year. That means you'll get to learn from your mistakes and have plenty of opportunities to improve. You won't get that at many schools. The program mixes practical application and theory from the start.

The program covers a wide range of production experiences. Television shows and short films are always in production. They range from news, sports and music videos to comedies and dramas on film. Students are the driving force behind every phase of productions -- including writing, directing, camera, lighting, on-air, producing and editing.

Multi-disciplinary degree in Media Studies
DeSales University's departments of TV/Film, Math and Computer Science, and Communications to collaborate on new Media Studies degree.

The goal of the Media Studies major at DeSales University is to produce media professionals with basic skills for content production and advanced tools of critical thought necessary for critiquing that content, with an emphasis on media theory. Students will take courses in media theory, journalism, digital media, and media production.  Media professionals must carry into their chosen field the appropriate tools for critical thinking about how media function as institutions, as content producers, and as political influencers, among other things. Equally so, scholars who choose a path of studying media in higher education should have a knowledge of the technical aspects of the production process that will help inform his or her scholarship. The major incorporates experiences both in and out of the classroom in order to produce students who have experience in production and theory and an awareness of ethical concerns present in the contemporary world of the media industry.  Recruiting for Fall 2011 inaugural class!  For more information, contact: Bonita Moyer at: bonita.moyer@desales.edu
