DeSales SIFE Team Moves on to National Competition in Texas, May 6 to 8
The DeSales SIFE team will travel to Dallas, Texas, May 6 to 8, and compete for the SIFE USA Cup at the National Exposition. The team qualified, after winning its division at the SIFE Philadelphia Regional Competition on March 30. More than 40 teams participated in the regional competition, where DeSales competed against five other teams in the same league. Established in 2002, this is the fourth time in five years that the DeSales SIFE team has qualified for the national competition.
The presentation by DeSales SIFE focused on the theme, "Connecting the World" and showed how the work of SIFE members, including students, faculty and business advisory board members, linked six countries from five continents. The effectiveness of the work by SIFE members was judged on the basis of 30 completed projects, which covered topics such as market economics, success skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, ethics and sustainability.
Members of the DeSales team at the Philadelphia competition included Thomas Carr '08, business major from Atco, N.J.; Johanna Cespedes '09, law and society major from Bethlehem, Pa.; Antoinette Ciccone '10, psychology major from Highlands, N.J.; Vince Coglianese '08, political science major from Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Kristen Garofalo '10, elementary education major from Staten Island, N.Y.; Joshua Lee '07, finance and marketing major from Allentown, Pa.; Theodore Merisier '10, biology major from Brooklyn, N.Y.; Alison O'Brien '08, political science major from Mt. Bethel, Pa.; Elizabeth Pfister '07, nursing major from Shippensburg, Pa.; Jessica Pignataro '08, marketing major from Northampton, Pa.; Michael Rabenold '09, of Coplay, Pa.; and Brian Radziwill '07, communications major from Cherry Hill, N.J. Dr. Martin Brett, assistant professor of sport management at DeSales, serves as advisor of DeSales SIFE.
SIFE is a global, non-profit student organization with teams on more than 1800 university campuses in more than 40 countries. It offers students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise, and improving the standard of living for millions in the process. SIFE is open to non-business majors.
