DeSales University to Launch MBA Program in Romania

DeSales University has partnered with the Romanian-American University (RAU) to launch an American MBA Program in Project Management in Bucharest, Romania, beginning this fall. The new program, to be inaugurated on September 18, joins an ever-increasing group of initiatives already established in India, Italy and Peru that support the University's globalization efforts.

The DeSales MBA Program in Romania will offer two hybrid courses: financial and managerial accounting and organization management. The courses will include six online asynchronous weeks, four video conference meetings between students in the United States and Romania, and two live meetings. William Dwyer, associate professor of business at DeSales, and Dr. Mohamed Latib, vice president for program and strategic development at DeSales and director of the DeSales MBA Program, will teach the first two courses in this program this fall.

According to Latib, education like business is being impacted by rapidly changing global dynamics. Economic integration and increasing vitality in different parts of the world, the widespread diffusion of technology, the impact of 9/11 and recent Bologna and WTO agreements have caused an opening of education boundaries worldwide. DeSales reached out to RAU by offering the flexibility, highly credentialed faculty, and project and case-based content unique to the DeSales MBA Program.

"Romania has a well established higher education system. However, the recent entry of Romania into the European Union, coupled with numerous meetings with corporate executives in Romania, revealed that there was a need for an American MBA Program with a concentration in Project Management," said Latib. "As a result, DeSales decided to partner with The Romanian-American University to launch its MBA Program."

In addition to Dwyer and Latib, members of the University's senior administration who will travel to Romania for the official launch of the new program on Sept. 18 include: Fr. Bernard O'Connor, OSFS, president; Dr. Karen Walton, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Fr. Peter Leonard, OSFS, dean of graduate education; Dr. Mohamed Latib, vice present for program and strategic development and director of the MBA program; and Dr. Galen Godbey, associate to the president for globalization. The DeSales administrators will be joined by Romanian MBA students, senior administrators of RAU, Romanian governmental officials, and Romanian business leaders.
