DeSales University to Hold Journey to Wellness Fair, Wed., September 19
DeSales University faculty, staff and students will learn how to maintain good health and about the multitude of resources available to them both on and off campus, during the 5th Annual Journey to Wellness Fair, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 19, in the University Center. The event is sponsored by the DeSales Health and Counseling Centers. The media is welcome.
According to Wendy Krisak, assistant director of counseling at DeSales and coordinator of the Character U, DeSales' First Year Experience Program, the goal of the event is to educate the University community on what it means to be "a well person" and about the various resources they can utilize.
"We focus on the wellness wheel and the seven dimensions of wellness, including occupational, spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual, social and environmental," said Krisak. "It is important for everyone to see how these dimensions can fit into our everyday lives."
Andrea Grube, assistant director of DeSales' Health Center, is working with Krisak on this year's program.
During the course of the day, campus, as well as community groups, will provide information on nutrition, smoke cessation, exercise programs, massage, cancer prevention, drunk driving, among other topics.
Community groups include the Allentown Health Bureau, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Body Central, Inc., Catholic Charities of Allentown Caring Hearts Program, Coalition for a Smoke-Free Valley, Coca-Cola, Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley, Diocese of Allentown Family Life Ministries, Lehigh Valley Hospital's SAFE Program and Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, People Powered Transportation, St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network, Sodexho Nutritionist, and Turning Point of Lehigh Valley.
