Students missing class because of illness are responsible for notifying their instructors. Faculty may call the Health Center to verify a student's treatment only if the student agrees to a release of information. In cases of serious illness involving hospitalization or strict bed rest, the nursing staff will so notify the Student Affairs Office and the Academic Dean.

The Health Center never initiates such contacts and no health excuses are ever written. If a student is too ill to remain in residence, that decision will be made in consultation with a physician. In all cases, students must communicate with faculty.
