Screening of New Feature-Length Baseball Film, Champions of Faith, and Discussion With Film's Producer, Tues., Oct. 2, at DeSales
Just one day before Major League Baseball begins its postseason play, the Salesian Center for Faith and Culture at DeSales University will screen a new feature-length film, Champions of Faith, and host a discussion led by the film's producer Tim Allen, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, in the Commonwealth Room of the White Pavilion of the DeSales University Center.
The film showcases the intersection of sports and faith in Major League Baseball by profiling many of the most accomplished and devout figures in the game, both on and off the field. Figures like Mike Piazza, David Eckstein, Jeff Suppan, Mike Sweeney, Jack McKeon and Rich Donnelly lead an "All-Star lineup in this moving and uplifting sports special that tells the story of faith in baseball like no other film ever made."
"Countless scholars have recognized the link between the religious aspirations of human beings and the 'eternal' contours of baseball," says Fr. Thomas Dailey, director of the Salesian Center. "What this film offers is a more personal look at that connection, in the words and actions of highly successful players and coaches at the Major League level. Athletes in any sport, and fans of all of them, will come to appreciate the real power that makes these guys so good at the game they play."
Copies of the film will be available in DVD form following the event for $20 each. The film's producer, Tim Allen, will sign DVD copies following the showing and discussion. Allen is executive producer and director of the film. He is editor-in-chief and president of Catholic Exchange, a leading Catholic media organization. He has founded and managed other media organizations including American Family Media, The Maximus Group and Kolbe Communications LLC., which provided distribution expense financing for the Passion of the Christ. He also served in key producing and editorial roles in the start-ups of Relevant Radio and MovieMaker magazine. Allen has co-published and co-authored some bestselling books including "A Guide to Narnia," "The DaVici Deception," and the million-selling, "A Guide to the Passion: 100 Questions about the Passion of the Christ."
