Brown Bag Lunch Programs at DeSales to Feature Renowned Photojournalist Steve Schapiro on Feb. 5, and Professional Writer Rachel Thompson on Feb. 8

DeSales University's Trexler Library Brown Bag Lunch Series will feature a talk by renowned photojournalist Steve Schapiro, who is currently teaching Creating a Web Magazine at DeSales, at noon on Tuesday, February 5, in Trexler Library. Schapiro will discuss his new book, "Schapiro's Heroes," which showcases behind-the-scenes photographs of celebrated figures from history, pop culture and American life. His subjects include a young Mohammad Ali, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Andy Warhol and Barbra Streisand. Photos by Schapiro have appeared in prominent magazines such as Life, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone and People. He also has photographed on movie sets for The Godfather, Midnight Cowboy, Taxi Driver and Chinatown. His work is in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian Institution.

Rachel C. Thompson, a freelance writer, journalist and artist, will speak on "Get writing, Get published," at noon on Friday, February 8, in Trexler Library. Thompson is a member of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group, a group of accredited writers living in the Lehigh Valley area. Currently, she writes two regular columns, the monthly Artists Muse and the weekly Construction Guru, and for the free weeklies distributed by the Lehigh Valley News Group. During her talk, Thompson will provide tips and strategies on how to improve writing skills and become a published writer.

Trexler Library's Brown Bag Lunch Series, established in September 1999, provides faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to share their research projects, personal interests, and hobbies with the whole DeSales University community. It also offers programs on a variety of subjects that serve to enlighten and entertain members of the community at large. Each program includes a presentation, followed by a question and answer session.

The programs are open to the public free of charge. For more information on an individual program or the Brown Bag Lunch Series, please contact Loretta Ulincy, public services librarian at DeSales University's Trexler Library, at 610-282-1100, ext. 1446.
