DeSales to Host Inaugural Student Nurses Challenge, Friday, March 28
The DeSales University Student Nurses Association will host the Inaugural Southeast Regional Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) Student Nurses Challenge on Friday, March 28. The event will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Gerald White Pavilion of the DeSales University Center.
Based on the College Bowl program, participants in the Student Nurses Challenge will feature students from 8 regional schools of nursing and Pennsylvania colleges of nursing. The schools include: Abington Hospital School of Nursing, Alvernia College, Bucks County Community College, Cedar Crest College, DeSales University, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Moravian College, and St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing.
Each school will be represented by a four-member team with two alternates. The game show style tournament will have each team competing against each other by answering questions following those in the style of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
The grand prize will be the Challenge Trophy and a $500 cash prize, which will be awarded to the Student Nurses Association of the winning school. The winning team will also have the opportunity to compete in the state-wide competition at the SNAP Convention in Harrisburg next fall.
"The contest will be fun and challenging for students and faculty," said Dr. Margaret Slusser, associate professor and chairperson of the DeSales University Department of Nursing and Health. "It is a great opportunity for nursing students to prepare for NCLEX, do some networking, and also engage in some friendly competition."
In addition to the challenge, there will be a hospitality room set up in the Heritage Room where there will be vendors, refreshments, recruiters for students, and opportunities for networking.
