Peter Bogdanovich, Renowned Director, Actor and Producer, to Kick Off Eighth Annual Student Film Festival at DeSales
The eighth annual Student Film Festival of The Performing and Fine Arts Department of DeSales University will be held Thursday, March 27, to Saturday, March 29, on the Main Stage of the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts. Among the highlights will be the appearance of Peter Bogdanovich, renowned director, actor and producer, who will take part in a session with TV / Film and Theatre students on Saturday afternoon and also will help kick-off the screening of the student film festival that evening.
The Film Festival will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28. On Saturday, March 29, the event will start at 7:30 p.m., as the highlight of a day's worth of activities featuring Bodganovich that include a question and answer session with TV/Film and Theatre students at 4:00 p.m. in the Schubert Theatre in the Labuda Center.
After meeting the students earlier in the day on Saturday, Bogdanovich will conduct a question and answer session with the assembled audience at 7:30 p.m. and provide an introduction to the evening's screening of the student film festival, which will begin at 8:00 p.m. in the Main Stage in the Labuda Center. These events are part of the Visiting Artists Film Series at DeSales, funded by a grant from the Dexter F. and Dorothy H. Baker Foundation.
Director, writer, producer, and actor Peter Bogdanovich has directed over 20 feature films including international award winners The Last Picture Show, What's Up, Doc?, Paper Moon, Daisy Miller, Saint Jack, Mask; cult favorites Targets, Texasville, Noises Off, and The Thing Called Love. His films have introduced Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, Tatum O'Neal, Madeline Kahn, John Ritter, and Sandra Bullock and he has directed stars Audrey Hepburn, Barbra Streisand, Michael Caine, and Cher. He is also the author of Who the Devil Made It, The Killing of the Unicorns, John Ford, and This is Orson Welles. He is widely known from his recurring guest-starring role on the popular HBO series The Sopranos.
Featuring a brand new slate of creative, intelligent, and entertaining student films produced by TV/Film students, the Student Film Festival is a two-hour program screening of works written, directed, and produced by TV/Film majors ranging from short films, documentaries, and music videos to educational media, promos, commercials, and much more.
Highlights from this year's festival include:
Realty, a witty and fresh new comedy directed by Junior Matt Nye of Harrisburg, Pa., follows a couple on theirsearch for a new home while their suspect real estate agent tries toconvince them that everything down to the two built-in cutting boardsmakes the house the perfect place for them.
Junior Tim Martin from Hawley, Pa. offers creative cinematography and flawless editing in Slice of Life, a dramaabout a young man stuck working two jobs in a small town whilesearching for redemption from the monotony of an unfulfilled life.
Senior David Wasserman of Schwenksville, Pa. collaborated with senior Dance major FrancescaStigliano of Tannersville, Pa. to create a dark, experimental dance on film piece entitledFabric of Being. Shot entirely on black and white 16mm film, Fabric of Being features beautiful cinematography and a moving original score.
Kiss Me Again is a music video directed by student Andy To of Center Valley, Pa. which follows the life of ayoung man who longs to be kissed.
A native of Caldwell, N.J., junior Manny Munoz's Friendly Competition is a witty andfast-paced comedy about two friends arguing over who has the worst roommate.
The festival will also feature an action-packed introduction created by juniors Loic de Lame of Stockton, N.J. and Chris Brockway of Bethlehem, Pa., who also have created a beautiful time lapse set in front of the old Bethlehem Steel Works to be shown during intermission.
The DeSales University Student Film Festival takes place on the Main Stage of the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 29 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets prices are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors.
